PROBLEM
Many female customers feel overwhelmed and underrepresented in traditional guitar retail environments, leading them to opt for online shopping. They struggle to find guitars that fit their physical attributes and to find female role models. These issues create an inclusivity gap, hindering their engagement and long-term involvement in guitar playing

Goodly’s goal is to ensure easy access to essential information about their identity, offerings, products, and store locations for customers.

proposed solution
Many female customers feel overwhelmed during in-store guitar purchases and prefer buying online. To address this , we propose integrating a dedicated section for female buyers on the Fender website, providing a comfortable and representative space. Additionally, we aim to implement a more comprehensive and informative product detail page that can let them purchase guitars suited to their size and preferences to support their effective purchase decisions.

We figured there are five learning phases through Guitar World, which provide a valuable framework for guiding customers on their musical journey through our artist page. This framework informed our Fender project, helping female buyers transition from inspiration to confident learning and purchasing decisions.

Through this project, I learned how to uncover hidden, core problems and develop meaningful solutions as an experience designer. Understanding the industry, customers, and their struggles is crucial for a company’s growth. Identifying a problem and framing it as something that needs to be addressed carries significant responsibility, as it determines the next steps a team will invest time and effort into.
I spent a great deal of time researching credible sources to validate the problem and ensure our proposed solution made sense. While our solution may not completely resolve the issue—where many female customers feel overwhelmed and underrepresented in traditional guitar retail environments—it is a step toward fostering a more inclusive shopping experience. Moving forward, I hope female customers gradually feel more comfortable and supported through the changes we proposed.
