A Design Film Festival is a global platform showcasing design through film. Our project revisited its visual identity and found that each edition featured a distinct design style reflected in assets like posters and banners. Based on this insight, we created four new visual identity concepts that could represent future editions of the festival, along with accompanying promotional assets.

Overview

DFF explores design through film, showcasing the stories and processes behind creative disciplines. We envisioned a microsite to house DFF’s archived films, categorized by design type, avoiding the traditional archive feel while aligning with the festival's goals and offering an engaging digital experience that encourages broader exploration of design and film.

Approach

We chose a visible grid layout to resemble a bookshelf or files, subtly organizing content while reflecting the methodical nature of design. The black-and-white color scheme shifts focus from the films themselves to the design stories, encouraging viewers to engage more with the design processes and ideas behind the films.

Overview

This concept builds on the structured grid system introduced in the first edition but takes a different visual approach by incorporating duotone color treatments. While maintaining clarity and structure, the use of color adds a distinct mood and identity to the archive, offering a fresh yet cohesive way to explore DFF’s design-focused film collection.

Approach

As with the first edition, the visible grid helps organize content clearly, referencing the structure of bookshelves or filing systems. The duotone color treatment adds visual interest and consistency, subtly hinting at the tone and atmosphere often seen in film, without distracting from the design content itself.
