Brand Style Guide
Problem
AgriService BC faced a growing need for a cohesive brand identity as the team expanded and communication materials increased. Without a unified brand style guide, design outcomes from various external designers and teams became inconsistent, diminishing the professionalism and visual harmony of their content.
Solution
To address this, a comprehensive brand style guide was developed to establish clear design standards and ensure consistency across all visual materials. The guide covered key elements such as typefaces, general and category-specific color schemes, icons, and basic graphic recommendations. Training sessions were conducted to help non-design employees understand and apply these guidelines, empowering them to maintain professional and consistent visual communication.

Infographic

To enhance communication and make complex information more accessible, a series of infographics were developed for AgriService BC. These visuals effectively distilled key agricultural programs, performance metrics, services, and resources into clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand formats.
Aligned with the established brand style guide, the infographics maintained consistency in typography, color schemes, and iconography. Designed for both digital and print use, they supported internal reports, public-facing materials, and presentations, ensuring a cohesive and professional visual identity across all communication channels.

Social media

AgriService BC launched its first social media presence on Facebook in June 2023 to share agricultural resources, workshop details, and event updates. From June 2023 to May 2024, the page grew steadily, reaching 1.9K followers by the end of the internship period.
Factsheet/poster templates
To streamline visual material creation, factsheet and poster templates were developed for AgriService BC in PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Word formats, which are the most familiar and commonly used by non-design employees. These templates ensured consistent design across communications and allowed non-design employees to create professional-quality materials without the need for external design support.
The factsheet template was used for clear, straightforward communication of program and service details, while the poster template facilitated the design of promotional materials for events and initiatives.

Template Expansion

The template system was expanded to accommodate the specific needs of individual programs. For example, Research Brief templates were created for programs related to 'Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability,' with design elements aligned to the program’s designated colors in the AgriService BC style guide.
Template Expansion

This internship provided valuable hands-on experience in establishing and maintaining a consistent brand identity within a government-affiliated organization. Working on AgriService BC’s visual design taught me how to create design systems that are both scalable and accessible for non-designers, ensuring longevity beyond my involvement.
A key takeaway was the importance of balancing creativity with practicality—designing not just for aesthetics but for usability, adaptability, and ease of implementation. From crafting the brand style guide to training employees and developing templates, this experience reinforced the role of design in improving communication and professionalism within an organization.
Beyond technical skills, collaborating with different teams and understanding their needs helped me grow as a designer, emphasizing the value of clear communication, adaptability, and strategic thinking in real-world design applications.
